Company & Challenge
Our client is the owner and lead makeup artist for a makeup and hair styling business in Central California specializing in weddings, special events and production work.
The old website:
- Didn’t represent her personal aesthetic
- Lacked appeal to her ideal clientele either in design and copy
- Made it difficult for visitors to find information
- Didn’t pull people in and encourage them to spend time browsing her work
Our Solution
Function:
- Upgraded to a professional website tool (Elementor Pro) with an updated dynamic theme. This allowed us to include professional plug-ins (small bits of code designed for specific tasks) to add features like photo galleries and customizable contact forms, and because WordPress is constantly updated and provides a variety of tools and plug-ins for optimizing SEO, WordPress websites tend to rank higher than others in search engine results.
- We optimized the images and organized the photo galleries into categories. Large images slow down your web pages which creates a less than optimal user experience. Optimizing images is the process of decreasing their file size, using either a plugin or script, which in turn speeds up the load time of the page.
Copy:
- The new website clearly states what they offer and to whom. The old site never told visitors that the business is mobile, on location makeup artists and hair stylists. Visitors were left wondering: is it a salon, does she work out of her home?
- The old site never told us where the services are offered. What state, city? When local businesses don’t immediately tell us where they’re located, bounce rate is high, meaning visitors leave the website quickly, which has a negative impact on search ranking. In addition, because 46% of all searches will have to do with location we want to signal to Google that this website is relevant to searchers in the Santa Barbara, CA, area. We increased local SEO by strategically using the location name(s) throughout the site.

Design:
- Construct a more user friendly and visual experience for guests utilizing white space, movement, icons to provide information to visitors who quickly skim the page and short blocks of text to increase readability.
- Include testimonials and links to stellar reviews right on the homepage so visitors don’t have to search for them.
- Create a vibe of elegant sophistication using beautiful photos of her work, design details, complementary fonts, soft neutral tones, and emotionally persuasive language.
- Because she offers 3 services (weddings, special events and production) we needed to design with navigation in mind so guests can easily find the service they’re searching for soon after landing on the homepage.

- The new Beauty By Blythe website captures the soft sophisticated look that clients attribute to this business with elegant images and subtle design elements.
- It’s visually appealing and easy to navigate with clear descriptions of services and prices, and with well-placed call to action buttons it’s easy for website visitors to contact her.
